From July the 4th to October the 12th – Georges Rouault, landscapes

Georges Rouault - A landscape

Georges Rouault - A landscape

The Annonciade Museum organizes an exhibition of Georges Rouault’s landscapes. The painter is known all over the world for his portrait of judges, clowns and girls and for paintings inspired by religion, but he painted also some interesting landscapes. In the first series of pictures Rouault feels the effect of ancient masters as Pussin, Rembrandt and Goya.
At the beginning of the Century, he painted landscapes in water colours, pastel and charcoal. Some of these represent places the artist visited, whereas others are purely fictional.
Georges Rouault, often considered as a religious and mystical painter, was a contemporary of Pointillism, Fauvism and Cubism, but never claimed to pertain to any of those movements. Nowadays we could say he was an independent and very inventive painter.
In Saint-Tropez you can find over 60 paintings originating from various national and international public institutions and also from some private collections. Surely it will be a revelation.
